Visit and paint some of Australia’s most beautiful landscapes in the Flinders Ranges. You’ll be astounded at the ever-changing colours as we travel from location to location. Non-painters and photographers welcome too.
Terry Jarvis is one of Australia’s exceptional watercolour Artists. His passion for his craft and his love of the wonderful medium of watercolour is revealed through his varied subject matter, and he is a much sought after watercolour tutor across the globe. Terry has been a regular tutor at the legendary Bathurst summer and winter schools for the last 6 years and is a regular teacher of watercolour in most states in Australia each year.
Terry loves the challenges that every watercolour brings, to catch the light, to capture that special moment in time, to discover that watercolour is forever your master in all of its nuances, its edges, its flow across a page that delights the heart.
Arrive in Adelaide mid-morning where you are met by your Aussie Redback Tours team. We make our way to Port Augusta to check in to our motor inn, followed by a “meet-and-greet” drinks and nibbles with our tutor and other passengers. (D)
This morning we visit the Matthew Flinders Lookout before heading to the delightful historical town of Quorn for lunch and your first painting session. Terry will demonstrate how he tackles one of the subjects, and then it will be your turn to paint. Later we continue on a scenic drive to Merna Mora Station, your home for three nights. (B,D)
A full day of painting around Merna Mora Station where you will have numerous choices of classic Flinders Ranges vistas to paint under Terry’s guidance. The area is steeped in history with many artifacts and evidence of the early days of settlement. (B,L,D)
We take a short drive to Parachilna Gorge, deep in the heart of the Flinders Ranges, with its huge river gums, red gums and amazing water courses. Terrywill choose a location to paint and will do a demonstration to awaken your artistic flow, and then you will have your turn. Picnic lunch provided today. (B,L,D)
We pack our gear and head towards a secret location for a morning painting session. Terry will show you how he paints the area around him and then it will be your turn to have a go. Later we make our way to Hawker, which will be our home for three nights. You will have time in the afternoon to visit the very interesting Jeff Morgan Gallery, famous for panoramic murals of the area. (B)
A full day of painting at Rawnsley Park Station. Here we see some stunning vistas of Wilpena Pound and the surrounding Flinders Ranges. At lunch time you will have the opportunity to purchase a delicious outback lunch at the Woolshed Station Restaurant whilst appreciating the views around you. After lunch you will continue painting under Terry’s guidance before we head back to our accommodation. (B,D)
We start the day with an opportunity to take a scenic flight over Wilpena Pound and the Flinders Ranges (own expense). Later this morning we visit the very famous Cazneaux Tree for a morning painting session, followed by a short drive into Wilpena Pound for you to buy lunch. We finish the day with a painting session at a stunning lookout before returning to Hawker. (B)
This morning we leave Hawker and make our way to
Orroroo for morning tea, then its on to the historic copper mining town of Burra for lunch, check-in and an afternoon painting session. As it’s our last night together, we’ll have a show-and-tell of all the work we’ve created over the past week. (B,D)
After a hearty breakfast, we leave Burra, making our way to Adelaide airport through some classic South Australian towns. What a grand way to finish an art trip of the Flinders Ranges! (B)
