John Holland Way – WA Goldfields

Wed 12 Oct to Sun 16 Oct 2022 (5 Days)
Seniors $1540 Adults $1690 – S/Supp $360

Embark on a real Australian outback adventure where we re-trace the pioneer route to the goldfields created by John Holland, through rugged bushland and woodlands.

1

Day 1

We follow the Golden Pipeline through the woodlands and old goldfields on our way to Kalgoorlie. On the way we visit the old Cunderdin pumping station museum, one of the many that pumped water to the goldfields in the past. Our next stop is the very interesting historic Westonia gold mining townsite. Later we pass through Southern Cross and Coolgardie on our way to Kalgoorlie, our home for the next two nights. (D)

2

Day 2

Today we visit the outback town of Broad Arrow, once a thriving gold town, but now almost a ghost town. We also visit the two-up ring on the way, then head to Menzies and Lake Ballard – famous for the Antony Gormley statues. We enjoy a picnic lunch at Lake Ballard before travelling back to Kalgoorlie for the night. (B,L,D)

3

Day 3

We start our epic journey through the remote outback on the John Holland Way, enjoying vistas of virgin bush, salt lakes, nature reserves and granite outcrops along the way. We enjoy most of the day on the track before arriving in Hyden, our stop for the evening. (B,L,D)

4

Day 4

We continue on the John Holland Way to Lake Grace, Dumbleyung and Katanning, hopefully stopping for wildflowers along the way before arriving in Broomehill, our stop for the night (and the end of the Holland Way). (B,D)

Day 5

This morning we visit the Broomehill Historical Society building. Built in 1898, originally a hall then converted to a church, it houses a miscellany of items of historic interest, particularly associated with Broomehill and its residents. We continue to Narrogin and Wandering before arriving back in Perth late in the afternoon.
