Margaret River is a small town south of Perth in Western Australia, known for its craft breweries, boutiques, surrounding wineries, beaches and surf breaks line, and it stretches between two lighthouses north and south of the town. The surrounding area is the Margaret River Wine Region, known for its wine production and tourism, attracting an estimated 500,000 visitors annually. It’s definitely a must-see when visiting Perth.
Travelling south, we stop for morning tea on the shores of the Leschenault Inlet at Australind and visit the historic church of St Nicholas. We continue south to Busselton and visit the historic jetty and take a tram ride to the end for a look at the underwater observatory. We also enjoy lunch here. In the afternoon we continue to Margaret River, with a winery stop on the way and a look at the spectacular Canal Rocks.
Later we arrive at our accommodation for three nights. After settling in we enjoy a pre-dinner drink before our evening meal. (MT,D)
After a cooked breakfast we head to Augusta, a town on the south-west coast of Western Australia where the Blackwood River emerges into Flinders Bay. It is the nearest town to Cape Leeuwin, on the furthest south-west corner of the Australian continent. After morning tea we go cruising up the Blackwood River and enjoy the beautiful birdlife and priceless encounters with the seven bottlenose dolphins that reside in the river system. After lunch we explore the Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse, located on the headland of Cape Leeuwin. Later we return to Margaret River via the lovely little town of Witchcliffe. The town was built around the timber industry, with the Witchcliffe sawmill being built in 1922 just east of town. (B,MT,D) (Entries/ Cruise included in fare).
Today we visit the Margaret River townsite where you can take in the sights, smells and scenery of this wonderful south-west town. Later we head to the Margaret River Brewery where you can purchase your lunch and take part in complimentary wine and beer tasting. In the afternoon it’s on to Prevelly beach and a wonderful drive through the Boranup Forrest, returning to our accommodation in the late afternoon to share our last pre-dinner drinks and evening meal. (B,M/T,D)
Our last day arrives, but not an end to the tour. We travel along the beautiful Caves road to Eagle Bay at picturesque Meelup Beach and enjoy morning tea, before continuing on via the Bussell Highway to Bunbury where we visit the Dolphin Discovery Centre. We spend time here enjoying lunch and learning about the local dolphins, and in the afternoon we return to Perth with an afternoon stop in Mandurah. (B) (Entry included in fare)
