Join Renata for six creative days, sketching, painting, photographing and simply enjoying the wonders of some of the world’s most beautiful wildflowers. All levels of painters invited. Hints, tips and tutoring provided each day.
Renata is a Perth-based award-winning watercolour artist who has led a number of art tours in WA. Landscapes and flowers are amongst her favourite subjects which makes this a perfect painting tour for her and her students. Renata’s teaching methods are fun, clear, and suitable for painters of all skill levels.
We travel north from Perth to the little coastal town of Seabird for morning tea, then on to the larger town of Jurien for lunch by the sea. We arrive into Dongara early afternoon. Renata will run a mini workshop on how to draw and paint everlastings individually and in a field, in preparation for our next few days of painting the amazing wildflowers in the area. Overnight at Geraldton. (D)
We drive straight to Coalseam Conservation Park this morning, spotting wildflowers and enjoying the picturesque countryside along the way. We are here all day for sketching and painting this stunning breakaway area, stopping for morning tea and lunch. Everlastings cover the ground in this area and are abundant in good years so you should be spoilt for colour and variety. Overnight in Geraldton. (B, L, D)
Today we head north-east to the lovely little town of Mullewa. We stop for sketching, painting, and morning tea at the delightful Mullewa lookout where we can see more yellow and white everlastings, as well as banksias, acacias, climbing fringe lilies, eremophila, and an orchid or two. Later we drive down to Mullewa for lunch and a visit to the historic and beautiful Lady of Mt Carmel Church (a sketching opportunity of a different kind). After an hour of sketching, we make our way to Geraldton. Overnight in Geraldton. (B, D).
Today we head to the little historic townsite of Canna, which originated as a railway siding on the Wongan Hills to Mullewa railway line. One of the popular features of this spot is the “old camp”. The camp and more wildflowers will be our subject for today, giving us the opportunity to add a little old shack into our sketches. Renata will provide tips on how to combine the two. After another day of capturing our surrounds, we make our way back to Geraldton for a well-deserved dinner and rest. (B,L,D)
We travel a short distance down the road today to the delightful historic, Central Greenough Historic Settlement, where we have a choice of buildings, churches, stores and a flour mill which have been lovingly restored and open for us to wander through and around.
We have a variety of painting subjects, surrounded by more flowers. Buy morning tea and lunch at your leisure at the onsite
café, and paint and sketch to your heart’s content. We are here all day, until it’s time to pack up and continue to our accommodation in Geraldton. (B,D).
This morning we pack our bags and head to Cockleshell Gully Road to the Lesueur National park and a walk in the flowers and a last sketch before arriving in the seaside town of Jurien Bay for lunch. Later our last flower stop is at Nilgen Reserve before our return to Perth. (B)
