Kakadu is a land full of surprises! Discover who owns this extraordinary place, how many crocodiles call it home, and just how tall a termite mound can grow. With a living culture stretching back more than 65,000 years, there is a story around every bend.
Then explore Litchfield National Park, a Top End treasure filled with spectacular waterfalls, crystal-clear swimming holes and its wonderfully strange magnetic termite mounds.
Day 1
We fly to Darwin via Broome, where you a greeted by your Aussie Redback crew and transport to your accommodation for a meet and greet over diner. A terrific way to start our Top End adventure. (D)
Day 2
We travel to Litchfield National Park, it is a must see if you are in the Top End. It is home to several stunning waterfalls that cascade into clear pools. You can take a plunge at beautiful Wangi falls. We also visit the Magnetic Termite Mounds; these termite mounds are incredible. Built by thousands of termites with a north-south orientation to control the temperature inside the mounds and to minimize exposure to the sun. We spend most of the day exploring the park. Tonight, we stay in Batchelor. (B,D)
Day 3
This morning we travel to Adelaide River and visit one of Australia’s most famous war cemeteries, a must see and after morning tea, we enjoy a tour of WWII 4RSU Pell Airstrip, list as a heritage site in NT. Later in the afternoon, we return to bachelor, where you can visit Butterfly House and the museum and to explore Batchelor townsite. (B,D)
Day 4
Onto Kakadu National Park, it is an enormous, biodiverse nature reserve in Australia’s Northern Territory. With terrain encompassing wetlands, rivers, and sandstone escarpments, it is home to some 2,000-plant species and wildlife from saltwater crocodiles and flatback turtles to birds. Aboriginal rock paintings, dating to prehistoric times, can be viewed at sites such as Nourlangie, Nanguluwur and Ubirr, we visit some of these places. This will be our home for two nights. (B,D)
Day 5
Today is all about the park, the largest national park in Australia, covering almost 20,000 square kilometres. That’s half the size of Switzerland! We enjoy a cruise on Yellow Water and be mesmerised by the crocs, magpie geese, eagles and much more on this beautiful billabong cruise. A spectacular journey through Kakadu’s wetlands. Yellow Water Billabong is at the heart of Kakadu offering a remarkable journey through the region’s wetlands, with its rich wildlife, dramatic scenery, and ever-changing landscape. Later we visit Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre, it is a mix of how the Aboriginals lived and used the land and how they care for the land. Later back to our accommodation. (B)
Day 6
We travel back to Darwin today, stopping on the way to see various attractions, such as the Bark Hut Inn. Here is a REAL Aussie Roadhouse with the walls adorned by crocodiles and buffalo. This is a tourist icon and a must see on the way, also a visit to Window on the Wetlands, a beautiful place to stop and view the birdlife from a higher view and interesting display’s inside to learn about the Wetlands. This afternoon we will experience jumping crocodiles on a cruise on Adelaide River. Later to Darwin. (B,D)
Day 7
Our final day begins with a fascinating tour of tropical Darwin, where laid-back waterfront charm meets a rich and resilient wartime history. We visit the impressive Darwin Military Museum, uncovering stories of the city’s pivotal role during World War II. Later, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight home to Perth, taking with you unforgettable memories of waterfalls, wetlands, ancient landscapes and the wild beauty of Australia’s Top End.
