Day 1
Touch down in vibrant Cairns, where you’ll be greeted with a warm welcome by your Aussie Redback Tours team and whisked away to your comfortable accommodation. After settling in, get ready for an exciting evening as you mingle with fellow travellers during a lively meet-and-greet, followed by a delicious first dinner together, the perfect way to kick off your outback adventure. Day 2
Our day begins with an enchanting journey down the Daintree River, where you’ll drift through a living tapestry of lush rainforest and winding waterways. Knowledgeable guides bring the ecosystem to life, sharing fascinating stories as you glide past ancient mangroves and under leafy canopies. Each bend in the river unveils a new wonder—brilliantly colored kingfishers dart between the branches, shy snakes blend seamlessly into the foliage, and quicksilver fish flicker beneath the surface. Keep your eyes peeled for elusive tree frogs hiding in the shadows, and feel your pulse quicken when a saltwater crocodile slides into view! After this immersive adventure, we continue to the breathtaking Mossman Gorge, where crystal-clear waters tumble over smooth granite boulders and ancient rainforest towers overhead. This world-renowned ecotourism site welcomes you to explore its walking trails, learn about Indigenous culture, and soak in the serene, natural beauty at the gateway to the World Heritage-listed Daintree Rainforest. Day 3
Today, we travel toward Mt Surprise, nestled along the historic Cairns to Forsayth Railway line. Along the way, we stop at Atherton and Ravenshoe, each with its own unique charm to discover. (B,D)
Day 4
Our journey continues along the legendary Gulf Developmental Road, via Georgetown. We visit Croydon, where we discover tales of the gold rush, then later we set out for Normanton, and further west to Karumba, at the mouth of the Norman River. Settle in, this coastal haven will be your home for the next two nights. (B)
Day 5
Experience Karumba aboard the Croc and Crab, a 10 m luxury vessel, as we navigate the shimmering waterways and enjoy croc spotting and crab pot pulling. After the morning’s adventure, the afternoon is yours to relax or explore at your leisure. We finish the day at the local pub for a classic fish-and-chips dinner. (B,D)
Day 6
We continue our journey through Normanton, then on through Cloncurry, the launch site of the RFDS’s very first flight. From there, we merge onto the Barkly Highway, arriving at Mt Isa, our home for the next two nights. (B,D)
Day 7
Today’s adventure begins in Mt Isa, as we descend into the fascinating Underground Hospital—a unique testament to resourcefulness during wartime. Strolling on, we step back into the past at the National Trust Tent House, where early Mount Isa life comes alive in captivating detail. Later this afternoon, we head out to Lake Moondarra to savor a barbecue dinner beside the lake, before heading back to our accommodation. (B,D)
Day 8
We are off to Birdsville today! We kick off with a stop in Boulia—home of the mysterious Min Min Light. Boulia is also the vibrant hub of thriving beef and wool industries. We continue south, via Bedourie before reaching our destination – Birdsville – our home for the next two nights. (B,D)
Day 9
Birdsville is best known for its famous pub and the annual race meeting. This morning, we’ll visit the Birdsville cemetery, the famous Birdsville racetrack, and the Birdsville Information Centre and later we travel to the Big Red Sand Dune for an afternoon sunset. There will also be time to enjoy a refreshing drink at the legendary Birdsville Pub. (B)
Day 10
We set out along the legendary Birdsville Track. This iconic track leads us straight into the heart of Australia’s driest region, where annual rainfall rarely tops 100 mm. Along the way, we’ll glimpse the evocative ruins of Lake Harry before rolling into Marree, perched at the meeting point of the infamous Birdsville Track. For those who crave even more adventure, optional scenic flights over Lake Eyre are available. (B,D)
Day 11
This morning, we set out southward via the historic ghost town of Farina. We visit Leigh Creek, nestled amid striking desert scenery, before journeying on through Parachilna. Finally, we reach Hawker, known as the “Gateway” to the majestic Flinders Ranges, where we’ll settle in for a two-night stopover. (B,D)
Day 12
This morning, our journey takes us to the historic town of Blinman, where we’ll explore its rich mining heritage. Later, we venture to Wilpena Pound Station, a spectacular natural amphitheatre steeped in fascinating Australian history. We return to Hawker to relax and reflect on the day’s adventures. (B)
Day 13
Our journey winds through the Flinders Ranges, leading us to Orroroo where we’ll stop for morning tea, then on to Burra, a town full of copper mining history. We continue to Adelaide, arriving in the afternoon for a two-night stay. (B,D)
Day 14
This morning we’ll travel tot Murray Bridge to enjoy a lunchtime cruise on a river boat on the legendary Murray River, returning later in the day to Adelaide to share one last evening together. (B,D)
Day 15
Today you’ll be transferred to the airport for your flight home after bidding a fond farewell to newfound friends and your dedicated Aussie Redback Crew. (B)
