Northern Wildflowers

Our wildflower adventure begins as we travel north through the charming township of Bindoon and rolling pastoral country bursting with seasonal colour. At the historic old school site at Wannamal, we enjoy a peaceful bush walk surrounded by native wildflowers and birdsong. Continuing through the Mid West, we pause for lunch in Carnamah before travelling via Three Springs and Mingenew, stopping often to admire colourful roadside displays nature has thoughtfully arranged for us. By evening we arrive in the coastal city of Geraldton for a relaxing three-night stay. (D)

Today we journey to Mullewa, one of WA’s most celebrated wildflower regions, where hillsides can erupt into dazzling colour during spring. We visit the scenic Hillside Lookout and explore one of the beautiful churches designed by the visionary priest-architect Monsignor John Hawes, whose distinctive buildings are scattered across the Mid West. Later, at Pindar, we search for the extraordinary Wreath Leschenaultia, a rare flower that grows in perfect circular wreaths upon the ground like nature’s own botanical jewellery. In the afternoon we visit Coalseam Conservation Park, where fields of pink, yellow and white everlastings can transform the landscape into a living patchwork quilt. (B,D)

This morning begins with a moving visit to HMAS Sydney II Memorial, overlooking the Indian Ocean. We then follow the dramatic coastline north towards Binnu, stopping for bush morning tea amongst blooming wildflowers. Travelling along the scenic Ajana Road, we enter the spectacular landscapes of Kalbarri National Park where vibrant coastal wildflowers bloom against a backdrop of rugged cliffs and endless sky. We visit Ross Graham Lookout and Hawkes Head before experiencing the breathtaking Kalbarri Skywalk, suspended high above the ancient Murchison River Gorge. Later, we soak in sweeping ocean views at Bluff Point, where sea breezes and wildflowers combine beautifully. (B,D)

Our final day takes us south through the historic Lynton Convict Hiring Depot and the heritage town of Northampton before a relaxing morning tea stop at Port Denison. Continuing along the scenic Indian Ocean Drive, we visit the remarkable Mount Lesueur National Park, internationally recognised for its extraordinary diversity of wildflowers. After lunch in the seaside town of Jurien Bay, we make one final flower-filled stop at Nilgen Nature Reserve before returning to Perth late afternoon, pockets full of photographs and heads full of colour.
